I read someone's post about wanting to have an Epic style game in a
much smaller scale, something like 100 troops per model. I just
though I might mention that over the last few weeks I've been
developing just such a game. I would call it Epic 98, but that would
probably get me sued. The scale is one company per troops stand/tank
model, with battleforces consisting of about 15-20 models each. Thus
you would be representing a fair chunk of an Imperial Guard regiment
or an entire Space Marine chapter with about the same number of models
as in an Epic40K detachment (each model in Epic 98 represents about a
detachment of troops). With this scale, you can represent entire
planetry invasions (eg. 3 Space Marine chapters and 20 Imperial Guard
regiments vs. an entire rebel planetary defence force) with an average
sized Epic army (and I have suitably named the game "Planetary
Assault"). I (don't) call it Epic 98 as I have simplified the rules
to a huge extent. There are 5 troop types for all the different
armies, with the difference being their availability (infantry, heavy
infantry, transport, tank and artillery detachments). Also, Space
Marines get a couple of combat bonuses. I'm still working on the
combat engine, but suffice to say that the a firefight is now
representative of an entire E40K game, and are decided by a single
dice roll (attempting to get rid of the random elements). Once I've
worked out the bugs and playtested it, I might post it on the list...
depends how good it is.
Anyway, I've probably given you people some ideas for your own large
scope battles...
Christian.
