Both squats and SM has few choices. Besides that, you do have more than 4
companies to choose from. You just have to take along the exodus and the
necrons. Thats 9 companies and a great deal of variety if you ask me.

The reason why the Tau and Slann could do it, is because
of their advanced technology. Besides, there are only 3 types
of mechs, and only the heavy mech seems to fulfill its role.
That's my point, they don't work. They need to be more flexible,
and the upgrades is a fine way of doing it without changing cost.
The maxed out weapon slots will be equivalent to the heavy mech.
Other weaponry will exist as well. Today, you have either 75cms,
or 25cms. There is no inbetween, so if you want to have a tankbuster
mech, or a close combat mech, you have to go with the heavy mech.
The Slann have very few units compared with other armies, and they
need to be a little more flexible some places. One of the things
that makes Epic so fun to play, is the diversity of units. The more
units you have to choose between, the more fun it is. When you have
only 4 company cards, of which 2 are infantry and the other 2 are
two versions of the mechs, you are severly limited. I'm not doing
this to cheese up the Slann, i just want to have some more choices,
making them a more dynamic army to play.

If we never changed things which work, we'd still be in the
dark ages. "Hey, Slavery works for us, why change it?".
Well, thats a little extreme, but what seems to work for you
doesn't necessarily mean it works for someone else. You are and
will always be the voice of the conservative, guess that's why
we argue so much :)
