Like the analogy but for me it doesn't really fit as regards the Tyranids at
least.

For me there are some many different types of Tyranids that each display
different characteristics and something that will kill one won't necessarily
kill another more like the various types of golem of were creature. Not to
mention no one has managed to contain a 'nid organism long enough to run the
tests required to work out the immunities/weaknesses.

So the armed forces of the Imperium and others will at best be laden down
with weapons that they think might work against it this time but can't be
sure. + Most creatures will regenerate from the smallest piece of untreated
material give time and a lot of luck.
