Welcome Steven,

NetEpic is an outgrowth of Second Edition Space Marine. When Epic
40k was released (also referred to as 3rd edition Epic), many
veteran gamers were dissatisfied with the new version (including me)
and a group decided to keep the SM2 (Space Marine 2nd edition) torch
burning and created a new set of rules based on SM2. To see how you
build each army, take a look at the individual army books. Each book
gives the point cost for each unit, which generally speaking are
close to the old point values. Both NetEpic and Epic:Armageddon
allow things to be based either on the old square bases or the new
rectangulare bases.

One of the major differences between SM2 and NetEpic is that in
NetEpic you have alternating activations, instead of in SM2 where
you move all your units at once. The flier rules also saw
significant change. Since NetEpic is based on SM2, they are very
similar, but there are differences, both obvious and subtle.

I typicslly play 5,000 point games, but 3,000 - 5,000 point game
sare pretty typical. Anything less and it's a little difficult to
use higher cost units, like Titans, and still field a balanced army.

Hope this helps!
