[NetEpic ML] Re: Titan revision: Eldar
Hi Travis!
You know, after thinking about it, I believe I understand why the Eldar
Titans do not have more hand to hand weapons. Games Workshop 2nd
Edition rules, used a different Titan Close Combat system, than we do
now, with Net Epic.
In those rules, infantry and vehicles could attack titans. Much CHEESE
was made, when titan after titan fell to cheap infantry swarms. To fix
this problem, Net Epic created the Titan Defense System for all titans.
Also known as the "Electrohull", on human titans. Infantry swarms are
now mostly a thing of the past, and GOOD RIDDANCE, I say!
But in creating the Titan Defense System, a couple things were lost:
1) Titans could no longer attack a couple of stands with impunity,
infantry always have a chance to survive now. And a chance to damage,
even if only a lone troop stand.
2) Eldar Titans have always had a lower CAF than thier equivalent
titans, in other races. Eldar rely on cooperation between units,
agility and speed, to make thier attacks. Titans and jet bike would
combine to take out an enemy titan. Jet bikes would rush in first, then
the Eldar Titan would finish up, with it's Power Fist, delivering
maxamum damage. This is not possible now, and the Eldar are no longer
able to deal with other titans in hand to hand, as they used to.
So, how do we fix these problems?
1) Allow the Titan Defense System to be "turned Off" when the titan
moves, then "turned back on", during the End Phase. Allow combat to
revert to "Normal Close Combat" , as the titan player wishes. This will
sometimes expose the titan to swarms of infantry, so it will only be
used when the titan wishes to beat on a couple of wimpy troops or
vehicles.
2) Develop Eldar Titan prototype hand to hand weapons, that can be
playtested. Include these in an Alternate Rules section, right below
the weapons available now. Next revision, or when public outcry
demands, the new hand to hand weapons can be finalized, and voted on.
What does everyone else think?
