Hi Kelvin!

I agree that the BEST use of Shokk Attack guns is to use them on -3 CAF
Artillery units. And of course, First Fire Phase would be the best
time. But against an experienced player, this just isn't going to
happen.

Remember, with the new pinning system, Shokks will only be able to stop
infantry type targets from firing. Also, aside from destroying vehicles
and titans outright on a Hit + Double, they will only be able to Close
Assault non-infantry type units WITHOUT the cumulative effects.

Shokks are just as good against Advance units in the Close Combat Phase
as they are in the First Fire Phase. Although they would be exposed to
a round of First Fire, it's usually not a problem due to thier huge
range. Shokks always seem to get the best cover, because of thier
range.

The last game I played against them, my opponent used them to beef up
one of his Close Combats. This was a Mekboy Gargant, against four of my
Veteran Ultra Marines. Hollowed be thy name.

Have you tried out the new Titan rules? We did. I like them! But I
was also impressed with the ability of the Shokks to help out the
Gargant. The Mekboy couldn't lose a round of combat against them, it
had a Buzz Saw. So, the Marines were the only vulnerable target.

Although there would be a small element of danger, common for the Orks,
Shokks would be a great weapon for supporting assaulting armor, now.

Note, however, that I'm NOT advocating JUST shooting them into Close
Combat areas. Taking out Thunderers, and Devestators is always a good
idea. And Shokks are great for helping to empty enemy controlled
buildings and woods, etc...

So with all the above factors, I see that Shokk Attack guns will be
becoming less valuable in the First Fire Phase, and becoming more
valuable in the Close Combat Phase.

That's why, along with the Book Keeping, I think that shooting them in
the Close Combat Phase, MAY just equal out. Maybe. Not saying it will,
just saying it might.

They would gain the advantage of seeing what happened in the First Fire
Phase, as well as the Close Combat Phase. They could help to plug the
gaps. Or add exta umph to an armor assault. And, they can still shoot
at infantry type units.

Yes, mixing Snotlings in with the Boyz would be risky. Something you
would not want to do all the time. But try to think like an Ork. They
REALLY don't mind shooting into thier own troops. They think it's
FUNNY.

When I play Orks, I try to think like one. That means taking chances,
and trying to laugh about it, when the wrong roll pops up. Just like
Ol' Glazskull would do.

That's why I want to try out using Shokks in the Close Combat Phase.
Is it a good change? Can't REALLY KNOW without trying it out. Maybe,
maybe not.
