Ok, I'm assuming that a plane which is hit chrashes to the ground, then
repairs. I didn't consider that they might infact repair before they chrash
to the ground. Since under my assumption they would have to take off again,
this vould indicate that they would have to be VTOL.

Yes, but assume the plane regenerates before it hits the ground. I imagine
the case being that the hit caused just a "near kill", and the repair
systems kicked in at the last possible moment.

Why? Even though it is possible I have hard time imagining why the pilot of
a fighter/bomber would like to land in the middle of a battlefield.
