press release.
"NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
Sabertooth Games to launch with the Warhammer 40,000 Collectable Card
Game!
March 7, 2001 (Issaquah, WA) - Games Workshop, a leading producer of
sci-fi and fantasy games, has granted exclusive worldwide rights to
produce Collectable Card Games (CCGs) based on their Warhammer 40,000
intellectual property to Sabertooth Games.
Sabertooth Games, led by industry veteran Bob Watts, is the latest
entry in the Adventure Gaming arena. Mr. Watts has spent more than 25
years in the Adventure Game industry where he has run such companies
as Ral Partha, Target/Heartbreaker, and the US Games Workshop
operations.
The highly developed world of Warhammer 40,000 is best known as the
most successful miniatures game of all time, but it is also the
subject matter of computer games, novels, large scale collectibles,
and a successful line of comic books.
Sabertooth will follow up the launch of the Warhammer 40,000 CCG the
following year with a CCG based on Games Workshop's equally successful
fantasy gaming universe, Warhammer.
Bob Watts, Sabertooth Games founder, commented:
"With Warhammer 40,000, Games Workshop has created one of the most
popular properties in the history of the Adventure Gaming industry.
The background material and stunning visual images they create
contribute to their growing popularity year after year. With the
collectable card game, Sabertooth Games will capture the excitement
and mood of this powerful property, while exposing Warhammer 40,000 to
a brand new audience."
Andy Jones, General Manager of Games Workshop's Strategic Projects
Group added:
"Bob's past success in the Adventure Game industry and his
understanding of the Games Workshop properties are two important
reasons we chose Sabertooth Games as a home for this highly desirable
license. We have every confidence that the Warhammer 40,000 CCG will
be a success at Sabertooth Games. In addition, the extra exposure for
the Warhammer 40,000 property will hopefully contribute to the
continued growth of Games Workshop.
Games Workshop is the world's largest hobby wargames company. Based in
Nottingham, England, it designs, manufacturers, and distributes its
range of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 games and miniatures through
over 240 of its own stores, mail order, the internet and independent
retailers in over 60 countries world-wide. Further details on the
company can be obtained at www.games-workshop.com.
