Remember that it is suppo=
sed to be fun (and avoid raging arguments - unless
you really enjoy arguing=
...)
Usually the side that deploys best (including considerations like how=
do you
plan to defend your objectives, how do you plan to take your oponen=
ts' and
where is s/he likely to place whatever troops you might consider
si=
gnificant) wins, so consider the deployment phase to be turn zero (as
oppos=
ed to turn one where you get a chance to move and shoot and other
trivial s=
tuff like that) and DO IT RIGHT!!
Remember snack food (including drinks) a=
s most games go a long time... :-)

6000 point, or 12000 point games (and

Well, 4000 pts seems a goo=
d balance between sufficient variation of troop
types and time to play the =
game. We often play 6000 or 9000 when we play
teams (3000 pts a general, 2=
or 3 generals per side). We find that the mass
of players makes it a much=
more social outing (nowhere near as competitive
as one on one) and also ma=
kes the game run a little quicker.
>3- Does 'cheese' exist ?
Depends o=
n your definition of "cheese". Some units are very definitely
"excellent v=
alue for money" (points) and some things in synergy (and even
some things o=
n their own) are SO important as to decide battles. To me,
this is cheese.=
Drop Pods, Wierdboy Battle Towers, Wave Serpents, Shock Attack Guns and a=
few others are good examples of units that are effective way beyond their
=
points cost.
If a 100pt unit is so deadly that you can't afford to let it =
live, then you
have to wonder about "cheese".
(If you don't pop that wierd=
boy in turn one, you WILL be sorry in turn two
as it opens up with 8 dice h=
it on a 2 save at minus lots... If you ignore
that wave serpent in turn on=
e, it can lay down a template that kills 1/6th
of your army and immobilises=
another 1/6th... If four shock attack guns
open up on pretty much anythin=
g it's in a whole world of trouble... If your
army is assaulted by drop po=
ds in turn one, you better hope you're ready for
it or the game is over rig=
ht there and then...)
And there are lots of combinations of units that off=
er an oponent no
practical defense - (or even "against which ther simply is=
no defense"!)
like three or so units of doomweavers laying monofilament fa=
iry floss around
a titan or SHV and then targeting the poor thing so that i=
t has to move into
the floss the last couple laid down. It's not unusual f=
or four doomweavers
(300pts) to be able to kill any large unit, and three m=
ake it a practical
certainty. Ditto Shock Attack Guns. One detachment is =
bad, but two or more
just butcher anything in their line of sight.
I could=
go on, but to answer the question, "Yes, 'cheese' exists."
