Partial Hero:
Big fight I ran at a con here 2 years ago:
Orks had 3 megas, 1 great, 1 slasher, 1 mekboy,
4 clans in addition to the megas w/full load of support.
Imperials had Imperator, 2 warlord groups, 2 warhound
groups, a lone reaver, IG arty co, many marines.
First turn, Mega uses shouting counters, etc to close in on
speedy imperial units, opens up, vaporizes 2 warhounds,
some sentinels (break), a Blood angels battle co which
had charged up (breaks 'em) and wipes out 2 bike units.
Has about earned his VP's in one turn of firing - Great, Eh?
Imperator rolls 10 plasma first turn - moving forward, charging
things up, etc.
turn 2 Imperator rolls 12 plasma, moves forward, lays into
this Mega with extreme righteous fury, blows down every
shield, smashes, one arm, the head, the boiler, starts
umpteen fires, and proceeds to also break the Bad Moonz
clan coming up behind him.
The mega slithers forward a short distance and explodes...
At this point , the Impy has earned about his worth in VP's...
We only got in 3 turns, and there was no clear winner at the end
but there were 4 people per side running things with me
moderating/expediting/reminding, etc. About half of the players
were very new (played maybe once) so there were some
very unusual moves.
The Impy lost his hields to a gutbuster, but didn't go
down, and one Warlord squad tangled with another mega
and came out pretty mauled...but it was great. The
"Bodyguard" reaver I made specifically to protect the Impy
(chainfist, Volcano cannon, melta cannon) was swarmed
with Kult o'Speed, and ended upgoing toe to toe with the
Orky Warlord and his retinue-"None Shall Pass" - Massive
HTH battle going on right in front of the Impy, which is busy
wasting Gargants and the Goff clan, which is headed straight
for him under their deflector shield.
...And the Mekboy gargant actually took out the other 2 warhounds,
1 shooting, 1 in CC.
There were some specific objectives with special buildings, etc,
but many times these were ignored in the mass melee, especially in
the center of the board. One unit of Ultra's started off holding a
building
with a Land raider co and some extras assigned to relieve them.
The snakebites wiped them out to a man, except for one assault stand
holding on for 2 turns(offing 5 stands in the process) til the relief
got there
to mix it up.
Too much fun - if you have the mini's, I recommend a "group" event
heartily, especially with some newbies.
