Out of curiosity, what are you getting 'decimated'
by? I'm wondering what tactics/force composition your opponent
is using that could be so effective against the bugs.

Not very good ones obviously!!! I was (and am) still experimenting with force
composition and rules.

It was a couple of weeks ago - so I can't remember the exact force composition.
Roughly, it consisted of one swarm of vehicles and infantry (vehicles and
infantry in one detachment) with two mycetic swarms and a biotitan for good luck
(1500 pts total)

I played once against space marines and once against imperial guard.

The marines had a unit of devastators, a unit of 6 land raiders carrying
terminators, a unit of bikes and landspeeders, a unit of whirlwinds and a unit
of assault troops dropped from pods.

The imperial guard had 3 siege artillery, 3 heavy artillery, 3 deathstrikes, a
unit of infantry with heavy weapons and chimeras, 2 Baneblades and 6 Leman russ
tanks (I remember this one 'cos I built this army!)

Against both forces I assaulted with the infantry and vehicle detachment, the
infantry getting out at the end of the vehicle movement (a hangover from playing
2nd edition!!) The mycetic swarms would drop in later turns in (hopefully)
advantageous positions!

What happened was the space marines shot my vehicle detachment on turn one with
the devastators and landraiders then blasted the remains on turn two (they were
on overwatch). Lost a lot of morale with that.
One of the mycetic swarms was zapped by the landraiders and I failed miserably
in the close combat phase.
The biotitan was to slow in getting anywhere.

Against the imperial guard, I was shot down in overwatch by all and sundry. The
biotitan was spectacularly blasted apart by the deathstrikes. Only one mycetic
swarm came into play, as it was all over by the middle of turn two.

Moral of story - Put the vehicles and infantry in different detachments. March
move with the vehicles, assault with the infantry and get the buggers on turn
one!!

It would be better to use two detachments of vehicles carrying two detachments
of infantry as there are bits on the table which makes it more difficult for
your opponent to concentrate fire on one detachment and destroy it. The vehicle
detachment will be able to join the assault on turn two (along with a mycetic
swarm, if you have one).

Hope that makes sense,

Keith
