Current GW fluff is wrong then. The Whirlwind is one of the basic 3 vehicles
that are available to both Loyal and Traitor marines. (Page 11, Space Marine
1st ed rules, among other places.)

I'll go look at Codex: Chaos, but I think you are getting some thing wrong
there.

The Vindicator was invented during the Horus Wars, BTW, by the loyalist, but
both side used it by the end of the war.
