[Epic] After a game

I played a game with a first time player. I've only got 3 games now,
and still forget a lot of stuff myself, usually placing blast markers
or taking them into account while firing. (I forget to place them when
he's shooting and to take them into account when I am. Just kidding!)

That does it--I really get the impression that the dice roll for
removing blast markers varies too much. I know that it gets harder
to remove all blast markers as you have more of them, but it still
seems to be spread too wide. I think we may play with removing the
lowest of two dice, rather than 1d6-1. That way you always remove
1, and can remove 6, but you tend to remove lower numbers.

Since it was a first game for my friend, we played Gogard's Last
Stand. I was pretty under-whelmed with his megacannon, especially
against Space Marines with Land Raiders. Oh, good, I get to roll
two dice and look for 5s and 6s, or just 6s. Well, it does place
blast markers, and ignores cover. I think I'll check out E41K and
see whether the bit about choosing Megacannon or Death Ray for the
thing is there.

The Gaze of Gork (sorry, "Da Gaze uv Gork") rolled 1s the first
two times I tried to use it. Aarrgh! And the Lifta-Droppa didn't
get anybody in its fire arc. A Great Gargant really isn't that
well equipped to take on Land Raiders. The 12 fields and 18 damage
capacity went down really fast, especially with those guys on
overwatch. Wow. On the other hand, he learned that a pile of
Space Marines isn't well equipped to take on a Great Gargant in
a firefight or close assault. That's how I smashed 'em. There
were 3 rhinos and one stand of tacticals after the firefight, so
we finished there, before actually taking out the objectives.
But I only had 3 damage capacity points at the end. He had only
gotten one critical. But he liked it, and we'll play again.
I was worried that the assault phase would have turned him off--it
still seems awkward to me. Maybe when the battle is bigger and
more spread out, and it doesn't feel like we're resolving the
whole battle with one die roll, it will seem better.
