Hmm. Given the Rapier's SM/TL description as "more likely to hit
infantry" I think many on this list are considering it an
anti-infantry
weapon. What *are* it's stats in WH40K, and what is a Tarantula (twin
lascannon) like in comparison?
If I fully understand your question but, and you are asking for the two
weapons stat in Wh40K, here they are:
Range Str Dam
Sv. mod A P
Rapier 0-18 18-72 9 2d10
-6 d6+2d10+9
Tarantula 0-18 18-72 9 2d6
-6 3d6+9
(Tarantula roll once to hit, but penetration must be doubled since it
has two linked lascannon.)
The rapier is really though vs armored target, especially because you'll
never find armor value heavier then 26. The range is not shorter, and
probably the difference is in the ability of tarantula to hit twice (two
roll vs armor value) and it's 360 field of fire (Rapier is the only
weapon in Wh40K to get a 45 field of fire forward).
In the actual Wh40k rapier is eminently an AT weapon, able to destroy
everything it is fired on, but a waste of firepower as anti-infantry
since it has to shot to the nearest model, spashing it, but only one for
shot at best.
Tarantula instead is a very usefull point defense system, it can shot
all around even in overwatch thank to it's robotic brain, and it can be
equipped with AT weapons or Heavy Bolter as for use.
The old Epic/SM/TL, was based on the Wh40K first edition, so it's
weapons were based on the weapons stated in that system; the Epic40K is
based on the second Wh40K edition, so i think we could fix the
difference (as done for the Ancestor Lord / Living ancestor ws8 / ws2)
The old Rapier (SM/TL) was not of much use since it's range was too
short: I haven't tried the stat I suggested yet, so I 'd like to know if
someone find it worth it's point, to cheesy, or if Tarantula is still a
better weapon.
