To furthur confuse the issue ranks in the same service in the same
country are not always equal.
Excellent example is Napoleonic France where a rank in the imperial
guard counted as the next higher equivalent in the regular army. Even
worse is the British army where one officer coud hold a different rank
in his regt and on a staff, as well as brevet rank. Tieing this back to
epic, the space marine capt, who seems to be the second highest rank in
a SM chapter, could easily rank an IG colnel.
