"The Military Interests and Games" wargames club I belong to has been
around for over 25 years. We currently have 54 members ranging from middle
school to retired. For the past 20 years we have had our own rented
facilities in a basement of a store in the older part of the city. We have
two rooms and over a dozen tables. Six are 'banquet table" size and six are
half Ping-Pong table size. there is one 6x12 table also. The larger tables
have edges as they are designed to take 24x24 or 24x48 terrain boards. The
smaller tables are used for board games or are terrained as GW does with
mobile hills and green cloths. I manufacture approximately 100 trees every
other year but we damage or misplace quite a few. The club operates on a
$5,000.00 budget funded by the dues and locker rentals. We have a teacher or
two,a lawyer and an accountant as members as well as representatives from
most trades. I am not shure what most of our members actually do as it never
comes up. None of them have ever been to my "house" or know what I actually
do for a living.

We have had our ups and downs and the smoking problem has caused the
creation of a smokers lounge and a ban on the reassurgrence of cigars. The
downsize economy has affected our members as well as anywhere else, but
sometimes the club can act as a network for jobs too. Some favour the
acceptance of the middleschool crowd, and some game on other nights.

The advantage of permanent facilities is that there is a Battle tech
group that game only on a non-regular club night and we only ever seen them
a the general meetings twice a year and at the convention.

I will post the clubs website when the Convention news is up.

The club runs MIGS Con, now in its 19th year. We attracted approximately
900 people last year. Just about every non-GW game you can find will be
there. We have run the official North American WRG Ancients tournament two
years ago for HMGS. Again this year I will run Horus Heresy games with a
dozen Warlords per side. The Canadian HQ arm of GW is but a 1/2 hour drive
away, but have never helped out nor ran any games there. We always ask!
