One thing that enables realistic ranges with WW2 Epic is the following:
All Units with FP X at Range Y get:
X at range Y
X/2 at 2Y
X/4 at 3Y
X/8 at 4Y
SHWs have to roll for lock-on
0 times at Range X
1 time at 2X
2 times at 3X
etc
+1 time if assaulting.
If more than 1 lock-on roll is missed, it doesn't count for SHW-caused
BMs.
Artillery:
Artillery get to fire at 1/2 their FP anywhere on the board if the
target is within LOS of a friendly command unit, and at full FP at any
unit within their own LOS.
