from the old WD on this(IIRC), the Patriarch himself(itself?) would be the
one gaining powers from chaos. And as the BB always say,"Patriarch knows
best". if the Patriarch want chaos rewards, his devotees won't call him on
it.

or the chaos cult has the patriarch as leader. maybe thats what they do
with their free time, start chaos cults, as a hobby.

I don't think the GSC knows anything about the hive mind...until its too
late.

I liked the old fluff better where they were seperate from the 'nids.
