     I would suggest that you creat the "Space Hulk" using architectural
board ( the two sheets of bristal board with a layer of Styrofoam between.
Cut it up into an appropriate standard height and "Wine Bottle Crate " cut
it so you can stand it up.

    that way all the pieces are really only flat strips.
