I feel your pain!

However, please remember that in the 40K universe there are many "eyes"
orbiting the planet ... ships and satellites, which can provide spotting for
the artillery. Or, such is my rationalization for the artillery fire rules.
Add to this the use of GPS type systems and computer directed fire and you
begin to see the awesome abilities of artillery, the "King of Battle."
