From the E41K list (BTW did any body on the list see this one?)
Artillery
Artillery units are capable of Indirect Fire; they may fire at any
target detachment even if they dont have a Line of Fire to it. They are
also capable of making a
special Preparatory Bombardment attack.
1.Artillery get to fire at full FP at any unit within their own LOS
and with in the "normal" range of the target.
2.They get 1/2 their FP anywhere on the board if the target is within
LOS of a friendly forward observer
3.They get 1/2 their FP anywhere on the board if the target is out of
LOS from all possible spotters (the unit, a Foward observer, a leader or
commander) but
with in the normal range of the artillery unit.
4.They get 1/2 their FP anywhere on the board if the target is out of
normal range of the unit but in LOS of the a member of the artillery
unit's detachment.
5.Artillery may fire at 1/4 normal FP is the target is with in LOS of
a friendly command or leader unit but out of the normal range of the
artillery unit.
6.Round fire power down. A value of 1.5 is 1, not 2. See however next
item.
7.In all cases the fire power of the attack may not be reduced to
under 1.
8.The halving or quartering of the fire power take place after Blast
Markers are accounted for.
9.The Blast Markers applied to the target unit is based on the total
fire power before any adjustments, as per normal E40K rules, excluding
"Harassment Fire"
10.Preparatory Bombardment may be done with any type of Indirect Fire
or as "Harassment Fire".
11.A detachment that is out of normal range and has no legal spotting
unit with line of sight to it may only be attacked with "harassment
fire" which places 1/2 the
normal amount of blast markers and does not other damage. In the
case of "disrupt" artillery roll for "lock on" as if it were under
assault orders (i.e. 4+ to lock
on, second roll of 4+ to place a blast marker.
12.Artillery unit may fire smoke rounds
13.A given Forward observer may spot for multiple detachments of
artillery but all detachments that he is spotting for must fire at the
same target and must all fire
as one attack. (i.e. add up all the detachments artillery fire
power as if it were one larger detachment).
14.A leader or commander may only spot for one detachment at a time,
15.Artillery detachment members who are not Forward observers, leaders
or commanders may not spot for detachments other than their own.
Artillery fire Examples:
A detachment of 9 Griffon mortars has 6 possible target detachments. The
Griffons have 2 blast markers on them. In all 6 target detachments it is
possible to cover 3
units with the barrage template, generating a base of 27 fire power,
which places 3 blast markers on the target detachment. The after blast
marker Fire Power rating
would be 21 fire power. ((9 - 2) * 3) Note that E40K range of a Griffon
is 30 cm.
1.Target is 25 cm from the Griffons and is in line of sight It is
attacked with 21 fire power and 3 blast markers. [rule 1]
2.Target is 50 cm from the Griffons and is line of sight of a Forward
observer. It is attacked with 10 fire power and 3 blast markers. [rule
2]
3.Target is 25 cm from the Griffons and no legal spotter unit can see
the target. The target is attacked with 10 firepower and 3 blast
markers. [rule 3]
4.Target is 50 cm from the Griffons, and a member of the Griffon's
detachment has LOS on the target. It is attacked with 10 fire power and
3 blast markers.
[rule 4]
5.Target is 50 cm from the Griffons and an Imperial Guard command
unit has LOS on the target It is attacked with 5 fire power and 3 blast
markers. [rule 5]
6.The target is 50 cm from the Griffons and has no legal spotter
unit. It is not "attacked" as such, but is hit with harassment fire. The
target gets 1 blast marker.
[rule 11]
Preparatory Bombardment
1.Before the Movement Phase begins, place an Order Die with the
Special Orders face up ("!") next to a detachment which includes one or
more
Artillery units that you wish to make a Preparatory
Bombardment.
2.The Artillery units in the detachment may not move this turn
3.The non-Artillery units in the detachment are counted as being
on over watch.
4.The Bombardment may be fired at any point in either players
movement phase.
5.Work out the attack using the normal Shooting rules, except
that only Artillery units in the detachment may fire.
6.You may not also declare that the artillery units in the
detachment are on over watch. The non-artillery member of the detachment
may be
declared as on over watch. Flak units can be on "Flak Alert".
