I was bringing this idea from an old WW2 vet I talked with-he said that
the worst arty fire he was in came while in woods. foxholes were worthless
unless roofed with timber and sod. otherwise your best bet was to stand
staight up next to a large tree, and wait/pray till the nazis got tired of
shelling your position. He did mention 4 foot long "splinters" from the
shattered trees.
In 40k speak, these would be a S3 or S4 extra attack. For epic41k say no
loss of FP if not in LOS of the gunner, or no bonus for being in cover.
vehicles shouldn't be a problem, as most vehicles won't waste movement
going thru heavy woods- and won't be shelled there. Plus, FP doesn't do so
well against vehicles, anyway. So this is mostly for infantry.
