Thanks for your enormous post David, I found it very interesting. I play
40k and my little brother uses a very similar tactic with his orks (a
squad of 40 super gretchin with 20 orks behind them, +bikers +buggies
+boar boyz etc.). I play eldar and I used to find this a real problem.
However, i find that the best defence is to use an army with plenty of
firepower (>50%) to grind down the attack(with careful deployment). The
force should also include a smallish (but very fast) counter attacking
part (<30%). Other mobile forces (swooping hawkes, jet bikes) can be
used to attack his support units which can result in the diversion of
some of the main attacking forces.
By the time the assaulting troops have reached my end of the board they
are well depleated and then I unleash my counter attack to finish them
off and to get objectives etc.
Although this tactic was bourne from 40k gaming I am sure that it could
work well in epic scale also.
I am probably going to get eldar for epic 40k when it comes out and my
brother is getting tyranids (he sais orcs aren't aggressive enough) so I
expect that I will be needing to use this tactic again.
