You could say that the knight only gets an AV bonus if the det is on
assault orders. I see assault orders as a general CC readiness (bayonettes
fixed, etc.), as reflected by the half FP / lock-on rules. Knights on
assault orders would have their lances charged and at the ready, regardless
of whether they are charging something or meeting a charge themselves.
I don't have a problem with a general higher AV, either, however. I think
both these solutions are in keeping with the general flavor of E40k.
