Adam, I am not sure if you are subscribed to the 40k list, but I have lifted
some subscribing procedures given by the 40k list administrator (see below).

The armies are pretty OK, though the rules and army lists are more open to
abuses - Space Wolves (5 assault cannons ?!), Eldar (Exarch with Fast/Crack
shot, Vypers with their vehicle cards) .

One thing I noticed about 40k is that too much time can be spent on the
designing the "killer" army. Minimising, maximising seems to be pretty
common - at times this seems to be the rule than the exception. While
players of many game system will be try to design a good force and thus
min/max (ing) their forces, I think 40k players do spend a lot of time doing
that. I have been guilty of that very often :P. I mean trying to figure
out how many plasma pistols, chainswords, powerswords/pistol vs
chainsword/meltabomb will get you bogged down pretty fast. Maybe it is just
me, but sometimes I wish the point system/ victory point system could be
simplified.

Admittedly it is up to the players to decide how they want to play the game
- maximum cheese, power gaming etc - but I think the system itself leaves
too much leeway for such 'strategic' approach.

Another strange thing is the way GW insistence (my opinion) of using tanks
in 40k scale. I always thought tanks should belong to Epic (and now Epic40k)
- 40k seems to be too small a battlefield to have tanks running about.

I must admit though 40k is kinda fun - I like the details on the figure -
but I think I would rather prefer mass movement of troops and tanks -
flanking, assaulting and moving in for the kill. Much more, shall we say it,
Epic ?

Regards
Oki
