Allen:
This should definitely be FAQ'd. Even though it makes no sense that
Marines would lose initiative by taking Thawks, Steve is right that there
is a conflict. I know which side I fall on, but it's best to end the
debate by getting it straight from the source.
Armies book: p.31 lists the Space Marines Summary with Thunderhawk included
under Flyers (and not on the facing page, which is Imperial Guard summary)
Armies book: p.23 Adeptus Astartes section lists Flyers - Thunderhawk
gunship and describes it as an organic asset for the Marines.
Armies book: p.38 lists it under the Imperial Air Detachment along with
Thunderbolts and Marauders, while mentioning that it may only transport
Space Marines.
Finally, Armies book: p.33 : "The Army of the Imperium has a strategy
rating of 4. This assumes Space Marines are fighting alongside Imperial
Guard (including Imperial Navy aircraft) and/or Titans. If the force is
completely made up of Space Marine detachments, its strategy rating is 5.
.."
It seems clear to me that the only confusion arises from the 'Imperial Air
Detachment' which, IMHO, is not the same as Imperial Navy Aircraft
(Thunderbolts and Marauders). They even went as far as to list the
Thunderhawk only in the Marines section elsewhere and to mention it could
only carry the Marines in the Detachment seciton. Why is there even a
debate? <sigh> Anyway... my vote is to send it to Jervis. Sorry for the
long-windedness.
