[Epic] [E40k] Tyranid Bio-Titan Regeneration

Hi All!

I'm aware than Jervis Johnson has said an emphatic NO to Tyranid
Bio-Titan regeneration, but I personally still can't see the
justification for the high point cost of these behemoths, even taking
into account the high Damage Capacity/Assault and Armour Save of the
Hierophants and Hierodules, for instance.

However, to simply allow them to, say, regenerate DC during the Repair
Phase on a 4+ might perhaps tip them the other way, making them too cheap
points-wise.

Here are two possible options for the Regenerate special ability:

1) Infantry, Vehicle and Flyer units with the Regenerate special ability
recover lost DC on the roll of a 4+ during the Repair Phase. Note that,
as most of these units have a DC of 1, only one dice will be rolled for
regeneration. Infantry, Vehicle and Flyer units that fail to regenerate
to at least 1 DC are destroyed. War Engine units with the Regenerate
special ability may either recover lost DC on the roll of a 4+ during the
Repair Phase, or repair damaged weapons or systems - not both! Again, War
Engine units that fail to regenerate to at least 1 DC suffer catastrophic
damage as usual (roll on the Catastrophic Damage table). Infantry,
Vehicle and Flyer units that successfully regenerate do not count as
destroyed for morale purposes. War Engine detachments that fall below
half DC and have subtracted their Morale Rating from the Army Total as a
result, regain the lost Morale points if their DC is increased to half
that of the detachment total. If their DC drops to half or below again,
subtract the Morale from the Army Total again.

2) As option 1 above, but regenerate on a 5+ during the Repair Phase.
Also, allow War Engine units to both regenerate AND repair damaged
systems in the Repair Phase.

For those that think it's "just another form of Save" note that units
regenerate in the Repair Phase - that means they can't do anything else
in the meantime, and could miss out on Shooting, Close Combat and
Firefights (and also could be out of command if the rest of their
detachment leaves them behind!) if done right. The other possibility is
to throw more firepower into killing War Engines with Regeneration to
reduce their DC as far below zero as possible - that means a greater
chance the unit won't come back, and even if it does it will have a
greatly reduced DC as a result!

Thoughts? Comments? Opinions? Too powerful? Perhaps it should apply to
War Engines only (though I had Trolls and other regenerating units in
mind).

Kind regards, JAMES FLOWERS
