Try seeing the rule like this: units moving in the assault phase cannot
ignore enemy units which they could charge (have enough movement for it)
for other enemy units farther away.
Ex:
a bike detachment moves 35 cm in the assault phase. It has enemies
within 10 cm and 25 cm. They cannot charge the ones within 25 cm ignoring
those within 10cm.

Flame away please.

This is not a flame, but what you said is not entirely correct.
The bike detachment could charge the farther unit as long as the bikes
didn't move past the nearer unit.
Ex: Enemy A

              Bikes---------------Enemy B
In this case the bikes could assault Enemy B even though it is farther away.
You don't have move towards the nearest enemy, any enemy will do. You
cannot move closer to, then away from, the same enemy detachment in the
assault phase. This is something that is really hard for me to explain over e-mail.
All I can suggest is reading the example in the battles book and setting up a
few situations on the board. I do like this rule. It was confusing at first, but that
was just because of all the other GW games where you had to charge the
nearest unit.
