 Crichton is a good author, it is just that so many of his books have
made such horrible movies/series.
 Read 'Lost World' and then compare it to the movie. There are one or
two points in common, but that seems to be about it. An early sequence
is actually from the first book, so it starts off with a change and
then starts taking sharps turns to the left.
