Dear Maillist.

Having just fought and lost a major battle I hereby commend my report for
entry in the great Tactica Imperialis so that it may serve as a guideline
for other Imperial commanders.

I'm one of those who can still remember the brief beriod when you got 3
mrk. 1 Thunderhawks in a blister (maybe it was only two, its a long time
ago...). Anyway for this 2000 points battle I thought, lets see what they
can do. So i mustered 8 Thunderhawks, 8 Marauders and 3 Thunderbolts.
Devided them into detachments and stood with an airforce worth a lot more
than half the points value for the game.

For ground units I brought my faithfull SPM bikes and devestators, backed
by terminators and a transport detachment of razorbacks and landraiders.

First of all let me tell you that watching an eldar close combat detachment
of aspectw. with jumppacks and Exarches in each stand desintegrate in front
of a 32 firepower 4 thunderhawk det. is worth every point. Taking out
harlequins packed with solitairs is fun to.

However. Once the enemy retaliate the fun stops. There is only so much the
flyboys can do, and when the storm is over the survivors will have a score
to settle. What ever forces I had on the table now took all the punishment
the eldar could throw at them, and it wasn't pretty. Two brok during the
first turn, and in the second my opponent managed to attack all three det.
in one big close combat. I lost by 7. That means that I got 7 blastmarkers
on each detachment. At thispoint I think I had almost every blastmarker in
the box in three huge piles in front of my detachments. From one det. the
sole survivor was a terminator that fled with the burden of 17
blastmarkers.

So if you have to brag about all you flyers, make sure they have some
ground units to aid, they don't win games all alone.
