I think the confusion arosed because Sanguinius was casted down by a
BloodThirster, but he survived and IIRC managed to turned the table round.
Of course, GW did not help much with their approach cavalier to Imperium
history - standard line. " It happened so long ago, that the truth might
never be known."

Still, any fluff is better than no fluff.
