Re: [NetEpic ML] Epic A: should we say someting?
<grin> None of this "bothers" me from an individual gamers point of
view. Epic could disappear today and I still would have enough to run a
convention all by myself. But my comments are usually with newbies in
mind. All these changes make it hard for someone new to join in. Think
about how much you spent to have what you got now and think how much it
will cost in a year or so for the same amount of minis. No a pleasant
thought.
-->We have the same concerns here, but different approaches. Getting
some one new into the game will be very difficult if the minis aren't
available in mass outlets, like most GW stuff is. If there are no minis
available, or if a newbie has to go through mail order, or specialorders,
then interest isn't going to grow. The main issue here is infantry, as I
believe that the vehicles will remain approximately the same, relatively
speaking. That is a minor consideration, given the number of historical
infantry that can be used as proxies for IG, and there are some 6mm
fantasy/scifi manufacturers out there. For IG, the historicals should be
generally available, even in local stores. 6mm Napoleonic cavalry make
great Rough Riders (with more varied looks). WW2 Microarmor infantry
work well for IG troops, and I'm sure that there are Stragrunt minis that
can be subbed for the others. As long as enough vehicles and titans
remain available, the infantry will be fine. Biggest concern should be
the availability of Titans. Not much out there translates over with out
a lot of work, and Titans are a big draw to the game. Rock 'em sock 'em
robots man. Kewl. And while proxies are all and well, most gamers will
want "real" IG/SM/Eldar/Orks for their armies. No Epic from GW/Fanatic,
their main source will be Ebay, and the odd lot on places like
Bartertown. Think about the cost then, as opposed to whatever GW will
charge. Think about what a Leviathan goes for on Ebay (Or an orginal
metal Marauder for B-Tech).
In any event I'm buying them cheap when the game flops. Two dollars a
blister sounds about right <evil grin>.

-->Like you, I have no need for anything new. I have enough SM, IG, and
Chaos to last me a good long while. Those I play with generally have
more than enough to play regularly with out having to use the same army
composition twice. So unless there is something I simply must have, I
probably won't get anything.
