RE: [NetEpic ML] How to beat the Slann?

        Hi :-)

Two of the other players in my group (Eivind & Nils) suggested the
following :
Mech Warp Displacement shield at 5+
No regeneration for Necrons in CC (this would also apply to all
healers)
Vanguard save 4+ modifyable to 6+
Necron Raiders and Assault units reduce CAF by 2

That's about it i think. I'm very reluctant to change anything yet,
simply
because ive only played 4 games. These games were overwhelming wins,
with a personal best of 72-5 i think. It has to be said that we have
a special
house rule regarding barrages and buildings, which make them harder
to
take out, which ive used extensively to my advantage :-)
The problem is, they don't want to play against me any more, as they
see
no point in it. I really havn't made any mistakes in the 4 games ive
played,
as far as i can remember. The problem is that noone can touch me in
CC,
and the Neuro Disruptor missiles stops a lot of units from even
getting close.
I mostly field the following : Heavy Mechs, Vanguards, Raiders,
Nemesis tanks
and a Great mage and an Exodus mage + some protectors for inf
support.
This combo seems to work very well, specially when using the Exodus
mage
gate power to move my Vanguards up to 60cms in a single move. Move
them
into a house or woods, and they really rock! :-) Of course, they
cost a lot, and
i think the price is justified...

                Hi!

Since you are playing them, what do you think you should
change? What have
the other players suggested the changes should be?

It is always hard to beat a new army since the tactics
needed may not be
                obvious.

Another thing is, if you are playing very well, how can you
tell if its the
rules or just you? Very diffcult I'd say.

Other questions are, are you winning even when you make
mistakes or are you
winning because you're opponent is making mistakes?

The problem is that others who have tested the slann have
mixed results,
                some have reported a 50-50% win-lose ratio. I understand
that your opponent
are experienced, but their experience is limited to standard
armies not this
                new one.

It would be helpful if the other slann players give their
input, also it
would help to know what your tactics are and what your
opponent does.

Another good idea is for YOU to play another army and have
your opponent
play the slann. If you still beat him its a matter of
tactics, if he beats
you easily then its a matter of the rules.

I'd say the nuero disruptor ignores cover modifiers. As for
th Necrons self
repair, I am inclined to say it does not work after CC, but
I would ike to
hear other poeples take on this.

Another thing is that two experienced players do not always
yield a close
result. Th reason it looks like that is because you're
gaming partner
already knows you're style of play and anticipates your
moves. If you have
played versus experienced gamers that you usually have not
played with you
will notice that games can vary a lot in outcome.
Familiarity makes games
even. In this case he is not familiar with your tactics yet,
but after a
                while he will learn.

By the way how many games have you won playing slann? A
habdful may not be
representative since your opponent is still learning a dozen
or so wins
without loses may be more significant.

                Opinions?
