Make sure to check out mail order places. The Travelling Mage
gives a 35% discount (http://gnv.fdt.net/~themage/ order by phone,
not email; I am not sure he reads his email), Discount Games
(www.discountgames.com) gives 30%. Also, a lot of the basics are
sold on newsgroups or web trading places like Bartertown
(http://falcon.cc.ukans.edu/~darkwolf/trading.html). There people
are buying/selling/trading the rules from Epic40K or the armies
from the main box or armies collected for previous editions.

$66 should get you the main box from Travelling Mage plus shipping,
plus a little bit. (You save on postage if you can squeeze some
other stuff in on the order.) You could pick up extra on Bartertown,
but you'll be paying postage for that, too.

While I'm spewing out web sites, there is a lot of fluff on the
pages run by the guy who runs the GW Gateway. He's got 4 pages:
The Gateway, Cult of the Four-Armed Emperor, Age of the Imperium,
and The Black Library, and you can get to them all through:
http://www.image.dk/~krflarup/. Age of the Imperium has a lot of
fluff from Rogue Trader in it.

I think he's coming along very nicely, don't you all?

I like Space Marines, but I'm almost turned off because everyone
else does too, now. (I know it is as silly to turn off from something
because everyone else likes it as it is to like something because
everyone else likes it.) Seems to me that before Epic 40K, the list
was full of players of everything but Space Marines. I'm sure there
were some, but we had tons of everyone else. I heard a couple of
groups say they didn't have a Space Marine player. And that even
with Space Marines being heavily represented in the main box (titled,
appropriately, "Space Marine"). Seems like that's on everyone's list
now. Still, I like 'em, and they're easy to paint. I'm trying to
encourage my wife to paint the Eldar, but those infantry look tough.
