[Epic] how to beat chaos

John Chapman's group obviously has difficulty with methods for defeating
chaos. Let's give him some pointers.

Mostly chaos marines:
1) Take AA guns. Several if necessary to stop the thawks. Chaos has very
little fast or long range stuff outside of thawks (unless this guy takes
imperial artillery allies), so your AA guns should be relatively safe. They
should either wipe out a significant portion of his fliers or postpone their
arrival for quite a while.

2) Keep some fast models in reserve. That way you can respond to his moves.
If he is out fighting you is CC, then they can help. If he is outshooting
you, they can CC and help out. My personal experience is that aside from
thawks even a chaos marine force isn't terribly fast. Exploit your speed to
concentrate your forces where necessary.

Chaos Horde force:
1) speed, speed, speed. If your force can start concentrated on 1/2 of the
board, and then effectively shift, you have double the firepower he does at
any given point.

2) Take units with lots of shots and as much range as possible. If they are
also fast enough to avoid hth (like falcons) so much the better. Have a
little bit of shooty stuff everywhere and whittle his break points down.

General:
1) Personally, I would suggest not going for greater daemon instant kills.
If you kill half his GDs with "no card save" weapons, then that leaves him
with a LOT of cards when his critters do get in hth. If you take the
occasional pot shot and he has to discard then it may be that growth or
uncontrollable flatulence card he has to discard.

Of course, most of this is pretty basic in a tactical sense (elements of
mass, maneuver, etc.), but the reason they are the basics is that they work
. . .

We had a guy who took chaos and ruled the board consistently, too. But once
we figured out how to beat him he retired his army so he could save his 75%
record (after it had fallen from 80 or 85%).
