nah, 40k 1st Ed. was real playable, and a nice game, esp. if you liked
having flying dreadnoughts with multiple 3" T10 powerfields. ahhh,
truly a cheezefest of massive proportions, with every other Eldar punk
being a psyker. mmm, those were the days. Bio wire. Off board arty.
6000 pts per side would be about 1000 left after 1st turns shooting.
Folowing Fire, baby! Twin-linked guns rocked back then. Fluff was
everywhere.....

I still play 3rd ed WHFB. By time GW releases WHFB 6th ed. it might be as
good as 3rd. 4th and 5th are just 600 pt generals fighting it out, with
the regular troops acting as targets for the Mages and Generals

Most of the stand alone boxed games were pretty good, Mighty Empires, etc

the "honor" of having the WORST rules was Space Fleet. Holes in the rules
so large you could fly a Hulk through them. Just unplayable. These rules
were goofy, even for GW. Ended up using the rules from FASA game, i think
it was Intercepter, plus stuff from GDW Traveller. Would have used
Full Thrust had it been around at that time. Minis for rhe Eldar and 'Nids
were real good, if not excellent. Imperial ships were ok.

The second worse rules belonged to some rules GW printed in WD 130-141
Confrontation showed promise, but i don't hold anything against it
did result in the more polished product Necromunda, besides, it was only
in WD, never released as a full game. GW Had minis for Confrontation,
though.

The only real problem i had with SM/TL was that there were so many
boxed rulesets to buy....

i dislike E40k for being too simple, plus its the game that"killed"
SM/TL
