At the time of that writting the Black Legion was far different than it is
today. At that time The black legion hated everybody. The imperium for
killing thier god (horus) and all the other chapters for cloning a false
Horus, which they abducted and destroyedl. The Black legion was truly
Chaos for Chaos's sake. Deamons would not suffer from animosity in thier
army. Now they have changed it to this gentler kinder 40k universe

Now most of the fluff supports a benevolent emporer with commanders who
deply care about all of thier troops, no painting kill or death on the
armour. I personally like the older characterization of all the forces.
That is also where my pet theories are based on. In this characterization
Space marines are single minded killing machines, the hatred for chaos, and
chaos's hatred for them would not go for it.

As for al this talk of alliances I can see this sort of alliance possibly
happening. Some ,stupid, imperial commander contacts a chaos lord to
propose an alliance of sorts. Noiw lets assume he contacts a choas Lord
who is not devoted to khorne alone ,if he does he's just dead with no
alliance, the chaos lord agrees to a meeting Things go on for awhile
planning stratigies and then shortly after the first meeting, as soon as
the chaos lord has a chance he will sacrafice every last man in the impeial
army, then sodomize every female in an unholy act to the powers, thus
making him stronger and the chaos powers more concerned with his success so
they will devote more deamons to thier cause to fight the nids.
