[Epic] Battle Report: Short and Sweet- Yeagh right!!
Pacing nervously to and fro the man waited. Having tracked the Waagh!!
through countless systems he would have his revenge. But now he must
wait. Sitting, preparing to rest, he removes the helm from his suit of
armour. Looking upon the honors thay decorate his many battles he sees
one- one that no marine wants to bear with. That is why he was here, why
he must crush this Waagh!! before more Imperial worlds fall, fall like
Regwald II. He was the only one to survive that onslaught in his entire
detachment. A meager brother then, the memory haunts him- now, with the
comming battle, more than ever.
"Brother-Captain Caliban, the battle is joined sir"
Standing, the marine replaced his helmet and stepped into the light
from his tent.
"Today shall show all glory to the Imperial Fists.........."
In case you can't tell, this battle takes place after another one,
where a slaughter ensued. Me, being a SM player trying to learn the
Epic40K system, I managed to forget about Snap-fire. Needless to say,
nearly my entire left flank was ERASED FROM THE EARTH when the bikes
charged head long in at a Cult o' Speed.
So, we (Mike Looney and I) came back to finish what the orks had
started...or so we thought. Each taking 2500 pts. we waged battle anew.
Not taking a close note of what he had, I can only aproximate, OR you
can check out his web page under Waagh!!! Tunez.
So heres mine.

Well, we didnt keep very good track of what happened, so I will relate
what my force did and how I felt. (Mike didnt want to do the report- Ill
lure him in...hehehe)
We played Escelating engagement with my lowest point unit was my
Artillery unit, and his was his Snakebite Boar boys. Lucky for me my
deployment zone was near some ruins so thats where my Artillery hunkered
down and stayed. VERY effective against an Ork mob, BTW. By turn 4 (or
3) The Boar boys were wiped out. Mostly by the artillery but, Calibans
unit helped out. Followed closely behind was a Cult of Speed. They were
knocked down to 3, and had about 8 BM on them the hole game. THIS is
what killed Mike- Rally phase. The amazing ability to roll about nine
1's through out the game cost him dearly. It even cost him his right
flank. The man, excuse me, ORK had a nice size Flak detachmennt and a
bad moon Cult of Speed (BTW, I feared them so!!) raceing in on march
orders. I manages to drop some BM on the Flack wagons, but he got off
all but one. THAT was turn 3. Turn four he rolled to move, he failed the
roll!! So that stoped the entire flank, allowing my Artilley time to get
fortified by my SM det. Then, next turn, he DOES IT AGAIN! Honestly, I
can say, bad tactics did not kill Waagh!! Tunez, BM's did. My Titan was
on the Right flank as well, but was highly inefectual. Not even fired at
once, and killing 3, I would have rather had his cost in Artillery.
Now, my center was going to be Calibans det., but there was none, so I
concentrated on the left flank. There I had 20 AT shots, and 18 FP. Up
against 6 Battle Fortresses, A Goff Mob, and a Cult of Speed, I fared
rather well. Other than the inability of my AT shots to be consistent, I
was pleased with the results. The bikes died, yes, but that as what I
expected. What saved the Land Raiders was B-C Calibans noble effort to
screen the tanks by leading his troops in front to provide a screen.
Having made 6 saving throws in the game, and winning the battle, I'd say
that B-C Caliban had gptten his revenge.
What did I learn? Honestly I got REALLY lucky.....I suffered few
casualties (only one half strength unit- Calibans b/c he became a
screen) and suffered minimal morale loss.
Begining SM 56 ORK 56
Turn 3 SM 57 ORK 34 I think Im a bit off on the turns,
but its just a rough
Turn 4 SM 56 ORK 21 estimate.
Turn 5 SM 32 ORK -9
Being my second Epic 3rd Edition game and 2nd game w/ SM I cant call
myself an expert, but when fighting orks, take artillery!!!!
Comments, questions, shoe sizes welcome
