[Epic] Question about Rules for Assault

It may be a silly question, but i wasn't able to clarify it:

Detachment a) goes on Assault order:
Detachment b) gets Overwatch order:

In the firing phase detachment a) get heavy loss and more BM, while det
a) get less BM : then det b) charge but is short, so there is a fire
fight between 1 unit af det a) and 3 of det b) (all the other units out
of range).
Det a) loose the fire fight and the unit involved is destroyed; at in
the rally phase all BM are removed:
Q): Has then all the units of det a) to retreat 20 cm (for loosing the
fire fight), even if the losses were fare less then losses of the
enemy, and does not reduce the detachment's morale?
If det a) has to retreat, isn't this out of the spirit of the rule?
(both detachments were big with HS 9)

Any clue?
