Actually, the rules state that WE's are never broken (meaning they never
get to make a retreat move) but that they don't take a hit from being within
15cm of an enemy after losing an assault or firefight. This is in the
"Never retreat, Never Surrendor" portion of the WE rules.

If they are in the firing arc of the WE's weapons during the next firing
phase, then sure.
