It's incredible how much of a cult following this war engine has developed...
I have had one since it was released, yet I haven't fielded it since
first edition simply because the last editions rules were crap, ithey
didn't define it's purpose..
I remember a picture of several CIs rolling onto a desert battle field
and releasing what would now be an entire chapter of marines (remember
that in Horus' days the chapters were much larger). The guns are blazing
and things are dying... In summary, they used to be very large ultra
heavy assault transports with enough weaponry to defend for themselves.
Compare:
1st ed:
Weapons: Defense laser (This became a volcano cannon)
8 Hvy Plasma guns
8 Hvy Bolters
AS well as 4 Void shields and the transport ability. The loadout is more
than a fully armed Reaver. The unit was desirable, plus it was a marine unit.
(I would love to see the drop ship used to drop/dust off this thing)
2nd ed:
Weapons: Behemoth Cannon (A rather deadly if completely ineffective due
to its crap range weapon.)
A whole bunch o' bolters, which never did anything.
On top of that it was too slow to do anything. At least in first ed it
moved at the same rate as infantry (and could charge)
I think through the list we should create some new rules that reflect the
CI properly...
I'll kick it off...
Move: 10 (then at least it can march 30) Armour:6 Damage capacity:12 or 15
Assault value: 20 (after all it has a lot of bolters and is very hard to
take down in cc.
Weapons: Front: DR 45cm range (or maybe an MC to hybridise 1st and 2nd rules)
Left arc: 6fp 45cm
Right arc: 6fp 45cm range.
Special rules: Transport ?? (I am tempted to say 20 which is a marine
company, but 12 is more realistic)
Also, on assault missions or any mission where the player using the CI
has a force setup and is on the move (like ambush as the ambushee) the CI
has Infiltration, it is after all an extremely heavy assault vehicle.
Damage table: a modification of the Leviathan?
PV: 350-400
Can be taken as a WE Support unit for the marines.
Tell me what you think, I know it might be overstepping my bounds, but I
will dig out the 1st ed background on it, and then you all can judge for
yourselves.... Steve

When you dream there are no rules, people can fly, anything can happen.
Sometimes, there's a moment as you're waking, that you become aware of
the real world around you, but you're still dreaming.
You may think you can fly, but you better not try it...
