[Epic] Two 'newbie' questions

Hi folks, I'm new on this list and have two questions (which have prob already been
discussed):

1) There are two base-sizes nowadays (or three with Cav)
a) 20x20 & b) 40x10; this is correct?
Does this mean that they're going to let one design ones own bases?
In my case I'm very fond of 3x1.33. It's the same area - is it ok?

2) Basing of Daemons; there's alot of different ways to base, but which is prefered for:
Juggernaughts?
Bloodletters?
Flesh Hounds?
Steeds?
Daemonettes?
Fiends?
Beast of Nurgle?
Plaguebearers?
Discs?
Flamers?
Horrors?
