Thane,
It's just a thought, but it's something that a few people do in the=
UK that has helped discourage potential 'intellectual copyright' thieves. =
Print out the rules and concepts and seal them in an envelope. Address the =
envelope to yourself and mail it. The package will return with (hopefully) =
a clearly marked date and postage franking stamp on it. As long as the pack=
age is not opened or tampered with it presents a strong case for who though=
t of what first. I don't believe it would be admissable in a true sense of =
the word, however it does help support such cases and works as a deterent.
=

Another possibility is to produce a brief synopsis with enough detail to c=
learly identify your work, but not enough to be of use to anyone, and then =
email it to a few people. As long as the email is not deleted it will retai=
n the date marker of transmission. Again this proves nothing but at least y=
ou may find a few people that are then willing to say you sent it to them o=
n such and auch a date. Faxes work well for that due to the Fax receipt sli=
p produced by the poling machine. In fact in the UK receipt of fax is admis=
sable in court regardless whether the recipient acted upon it or even read =
it.

Just a few ramblings...hope they help whilst you wait for the copyrigh=
t to go through.

I proba=
bly will be again. So far it's been people from the Albuquerque
area whom =
I've roped into it. Played maybe 30-40 games. I would like to
see what peo=
ple think outside my immediate influence, however. Once I
get a working co=
pyright going, I'll be more willing to let this loose
outside of my immedi=
ate control. I realize I really can't stop web
transmission of it once its=
released, but I can keep others from
claiming it and trying to make a buc=
k. It's also some protection from
game companies which may try to use the =
idea then sue me as if it were
there own. I've notarized prelim rules thro=
ugh four iterations, so I'm
sure I could defend the idea, but the copyrigh=
t on the actual paper
would hopefully discourage anyone from making the ef=
fort.

It sucks to live this way, but thats the price of living in the land=
 of
litigation.
