A couple of months ago I posted a some what complex set of rules for
engineer units.
Here is a simpler version of the rules:
For a cost of 5 points per unit any infantry unit may be upgraded to
Engineer status. Vehicles, to include war engines that have the
Transport special ability may be upgraded at a cost of 7 points per
vehicle. Vehicles that are up graded to Engineer loose their "Transport"
slots (the space is now full of mines, pointy bits of wire and like
that)
Engineer units receive +2 FP or +2 Assault when attacking enemy units
that are in Fortifications. When using the +2 FP the engineer must be
within 15 cm of the target. This reflects satchel charges, flame
throwers, Bangalore torpedoes and other means of messing with some ones
mind and body that combat engineers tend to carry with them.
If the "Bunker" objective is in use Engineer units receive a +2 FP or +2
Assault for attacks on the bunker.
For each Engineer unit that you have in your army you may place 1 razor
wire strip or fortify one detachment (see page 14 of the "Battle Book".
The wire is placed when you deploy your first detachment. The wire may
be any where in your deployment zone.
For every 2 units with engineering you may place 1 mine field (page 13
of battle book). The mine field is placed when you deploy your first
detachment. The mine field may be any where in your deployment zone.
Engineer unit use is exclusive. i.e. if you use a unit to place razor
wire you can not count it to place mine fields.
Example: An army has 5 engineer units. The player may place 1 mine
field, 2 razor wire strips and fortify one detachment OR 2 mine fields
and 1 razor wire OR 5 razor wire etc.
Engineer units may attack mine fields or razor wire to remove them. This
is done as a normal "Fire Power" attack on the mine field or razor wire.
The attack is done at the normal range for the unit.
Mine Fields have an armor value of 5+
Razor wire has an armor value of 4+
Engineer units that have 0 fire power are assumed to have 1 FP with a
range of 15 cm for this attack only.
Only Engineer unit may attack mine fields or razor wire to remove them.
