I always try to use house rule "fixes" only as a last resort. Otherwise, every
army insists on "fixing" every other army's good units, and tactics suffer
because people get lazy.
The LR is like those German Tiger tanks in WWII, big, mean, slow, expensive.
Yes, they'll beat other tanks in a stand-up brawl. Yes, other tanks can outrun
them. Yes, support weapons will beat equal points of Land Raiders any day of
the week.
-If you have access to Support Weapons, take them. LR's can't win an exchange
of fire when they lose 2 shots per hit to the enemy's 1.
-Hordes of scrub troops work well against LRs - no worthwhile targets, and
weight of fire will take its toll.
-LR columns are vulnerable to arty, airstrikes and disrupt weapons *unless*
they have Predators or other troops out in front. Since other AFVs tend to
have better speed than LRs, you can hit-and-run to wear the screen down, or
just use repeated bombardment.
Getting into close assault range without getting shot up can be hard, but if
you can use the terrain to get close, no tank is happy.
