Whoops, I misspoke. Vertigo (DC) does indeed produce very fine material.
Preacher and Books of Magic are very good. Sandman was great, and died a
healthy, natural death. I'm told Hellblazer is good, as is something
called Poison Elves (not Vertigo). Hellboy (Dark Horse?) is very
entertaining, very dark. There are a lot of good comics out there, but
apparently Marvel does not produce any of them, and I've been seeing a lot
of their stuff recently. My mistake. But to get back to my point, even
the cleaner comics (Books of Magic, or Sandman Mystery Theatre (or whatever
it's called), say) aren't aimed at kids in the 8-10 year olds. I think
there's a lot of money in that market, and that's why GW, Marvel and the US
cartoon industry are so intent on catering to that portion of the market.
I don't think they all woke up one morning, and thought, in unison, "Hey!
Instead of making thoughtful, well-designed products that make people
think, let's shovel out drivel that appeals to people at a second grade
level!"

My initial impression was "100 pounds!!?? Gaaaack!" <thump>. But I
thought it over, and realized that "noo" was probably English for "new," or
else the poster's spelling capabilities had been temporarily downgraded.
Anyway, 100 pounds seems like a truly horrendous amount to spend on what
looks like a pretty small Ork army, but my conversions may be off. As
indicated, send any replies to <atunney_at_...>.
