I was playing my Ultra Marines 1600 pt army against an opponents
1700 pt Tyranid army. He had 12 Dactylises (Dactyli?) in a swam of
mostly Exocrine and a screen of infantry. I approached this
swarm; while trying to avoid the other swarm of close assault 'nids,
he began to decimate me with indirect barrages. While seperating my
units more would help, its hard to maintain a 6cm seperation and
still stay in cover and remain within 30 cm of HQ. After all, all he
had to do was find 1 spot where 3-4 units were even partially under
the template and let the firepower add up. The first wave was 43 FP.
And that wiped out virtually the entire detachment. A couple of
infantry managed to escape their doomed vehicles. The next wave did
the same for the next detachment. I was unable to get away in time.
The result: one more world that needs virus bombing.
Any tactiacal advice?
Thanks,
Dave

-----> I don't know if it would help you but we just assumed baragges can
only kill things that are actually covered. That way if you really want to kill
say 3 or 4 stands you can pile barrage templates on them and poof they die.
But you will only kill those 4 stands. It sounds like your opponent is doing this
to you but applying the hits throughout the unit. While this is the way the rules
are written it clearly doesn't make sense. I believe there are some optional rules
in the Battles book covering artillery, you might want to check them out.
