I experimented with an ivory, washed with brown, and didn't like
the way it looked. Maybe if my wash was more clean--I have a lot
of trouble getting it down into the part that I want and not
anywhere else. I tried an experiment suggested by someone else,
using clear matte to thin the wash, rather than water, but I
can't tell if it helped.
However, when cleaning off the minies to try again (using alcohol
and a toothbrush), I was able to take most of the surface paint
off easily, leaving paint in the trim. If that could be done
just a little more cleanly, it would look good! The primer was
left underneath, and being white, next to the darker washed areas,
showed a lot of contrast, looking some like Star Wars Stormtroopers.
There was detail showing that I didn't know was on the miniatures.
I wouldn't at all mind using that as my color scheme, white with
black trim, if I could get the black in the detail cleanly. I
might try the ivory again if I could get it to have the same kind
of contrast. I don't think I could be consistent enough painting
it on and stripping it back off with alcohol, for the effect I've
gotten inadvertently. I know the pros at GW can do it. The contrast
looks good on the Imperial Fists, too, but I'm not going to use
that, just because GW did.
Any suggestions?
thanks,
andy
