You're trying to apply WH40k rules too closely to E40k. When
stands are in base-to-base in E40k, this does not translate into a
Close Combat in WH40k. What it means is that they are on the same
WH40k map board, and presumably taking a charge forward tactic in the
WH40k battle, as opposed to a stand and shoot tactic that is used in
firefights. So size classes do not need to be paid attention to,
since an assault in E40k is not the same thing as a Close Combat in
WH40k.

Sure, the Tyranids aren't quite as mean with the short-ranged
guns playing a larger role compared to the big guns and the
hand-to-hand, but they're less expensive than they are in WH40k.
