It's not so much that I'm opposed to E40k (I do actually like it),
it's just that after longing for a copy of Rogue Trader, Realms of
Chaos etc, I don't won't to let the opportunity of getting the old
Epic go. I can see myself a year or so later, after buying E40k,
thinking to myself how a wished I'd bought the old edition before
they vanished into the warp (or into the hands of some rich brat who
spills food all over the rule book before shoving it into his cupboard
never to be seen again). Sorry got a bit sentimental about the old
non-comercialised(sp?) GW, which I as a youngster missed out on! (no
super cheap rhino's for me : ) (I am refering to the fact that you
could apparently buy three wh40k rhino's for the less than the price
of one today.)
Anyway along with this there is the fact the troops in E40k have
all been streamlined (they really do seem to be "endless troop stands
to paint") and the fact that GW has thrown the background out of
the window. They didn't even give each of the Chaos gods a description
or put in those cool quotes. Why bother calling it
Epic _Warhammer 40k_ when there is little reference to the background
that makes GW's games so great.
I really don't like fate cards (I don't like it when my regular
oppenent simply destroys my supreme commander, at least in wh40k strategy
cards are a little more subtle.) They don't need as complex a psychic
system as 40k, just give each type of psycher say, 3 powers which work
on a set dice roll. Each psycher can use one power per psychic phase
( which would either be the first phase or the last, I need to think
about it). What do you guys think about adding a psychic phase into
E40k? (Posting as a new topic would probably be a good idea).
I suppose if a similar psychic phase to the one above, and some more
special abilities E40k would be great.
On a final note what do people think about the low stat lines in E40k.
I mean what are GW going to do when they want to release new troops, they
would all be same. Maybe if GW had used higher base values (than Firepower =1
Assault = 1 etc) then they could have represented differences in troop types
(eg instead of just Aspect Warriors, there would be Howling Banshees, who
have a higher assault but lower firepower than striking scorpions. Dire
Avengers could have a longer range and lower Assualt than Striking
Scorpins etc)
Sorry about the long post but every now and then I get worked up about the
direction GW is heading in. (I recently saw a copy of GW's price list. Nuff
said :)
